Retirement Schemes

CHP has 26 retirement schemes in Essex. Some are in central Chelmsford although we also have schemes in Springfield, Galleywood, Boreham, Chelmer Village, Great Waltham, Great Baddow, Stock, Danbury, Writtle, and South Woodham Ferrers. Every scheme is different but the information below will give you a guide on the kind of facilities you can expect.
We have very short waiting lists for bed-sit flats and first-floor flats without lifts in most of our retirement schemes. If you want more information please contact our voids and allocations team on 01245 613059 or 01245 613138 or email: Allocations and Voids team
Every scheme has Scheme Managers on duty during weekdays. They visit residents regularly and give advice on various issues including rent, housing benefit, and other services available. Retirement schemes offer comfortable accommodation while enabling residents to stay independent. Residents can enjoy their time safe in the knowledge that each scheme has a secure door-entry system and an emergency pull cord directly connected to our central control. Help from our central control is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Retirement schemes consist mainly of one-bedroom flats, but some have two-bedroom flats and bed-sits. Each flat has its own lounge, kitchen and bathroom and most schemes have laundry facilities, which are free of charge. The majority of our schemes also have lifts to the first floor.
Each of our retirement schemes has a large communal lounge where residents can meet for evening entertainment and take part - if they want to - in a range of social activities during the day, such as keep fit, bingo, dancing and coffee mornings. Many residents get together to form residents' associations and organise entertainment and day trips, for example guest speakers, bowls tournaments, bring and buy sales, and coffee mornings.
Friends and family are welcome to visit residents and some of our schemes have guest rooms available for a small charge (facilities in guest rooms may vary).
A new guest room at Carstone Place is now available for use. The guest room can be booked for family members visiting supported housing residents. Charges are £10 per person per night.
For more information contact Kay Jones, CHP Scheme Manager, on 0845 155 3000.
Our grounds maintenance team regularly maintains communal gardens and all schemes have car parking available on a first come, first-served basis.
If you are an existing CHP tenant and would like to find out more, please call our Supported Housing team on 01245 613000. Alternatively, you can contact the Housing Needs Officer at Chelmsford Borough Council on 01245 606606.
