Youth Festival supported by Chelmer Housing Partnership Charitable Trust

Ref: Ref: pr 094

Now in its fifth year, the 2006 Youth Fest project held at the end of August benefited from a £2,000 grant given by Chelmer Housing Partnership CharitableTrust (CHP).

The project, which has become an annual event organised by YMCA, took place in Chelmsford’s Central Park and attracted over 1,500 young people.  The events included song, dance, fashion and football.  Information was on hand on healthy living and Chelmer Housing Partnership’s ‘Quality of Life’ team were closely involved in that part of the event.  The Youth Fest aims to introduce new skills to young people, give them access to cultural activities, help reduce crime and, most of all, be a fun enjoyable day out.

As well as the funding from CHP’s Charitable Trust, other major contributors included Chelmsford Borough Council, Essex Youth Service and NACRO.  As David Cotterill from Chelmer Housing Partnership explains, the CHP Charitable Trust looks for projects that meet certain criteria in order to award grants: “This particular project fits our objectives extremely well.  It makes a positive contribution to the community, helps people develop social skills through cultural activities, promotes health and wellbeing, and is available to everyone free of charge.  It was a pleasure for the Trust to be able to help fund this event once again this year.”

Ends.
