New Neighbourhood Improvement Fund

CHP Charitable Trust's new Neighbourhood Improvement Fund, launched on 25 October, saw CHP Charitable Trust Board Director, Keith Andrew, make a donation of £2,500 to Anita Sartain, Director of Hearing Help Essex (HHE).
Hearing Help Essex is a Chelmsford-based voluntary organisation that provides an invaluable service to those in the local community who are deaf or hard of hearing. CHP Charitable Trust aim to work in partnership with HHE to promote their service among local residents and help raise awareness amongst service providers about the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people.

1) CHP Charitable Trust
CHP Charitable Trust is a new organisation set up by Essex's largest housing association Chelmer Housing Partnership to help facilitate neighbourhood improvement and sustainability within Essex neighbourhoods by providing funding and expertise for community projects and activities.
The Trust aims to help improve the quality of life of residents within Essex neighbourhoods by tackling disadvantage and deprivation against the following priority themes:
- Promoting healthy living
- Enhancing training and skills
- Provision of community facilities
- Tackling financial exclusion.

2) Hearing Help Essex
Hearing Help Essex is a local registered charity whose aim is to alleviate the isolation and loneliness brought on by hearing loss, by offering practical help, support and guidance to the hard of hearing.
They have a team of trained volunteers many of whom are hearing aid wearers themselves, who clean, re-tube and carry out basic maintenance to NHS hearing aids either in client's own homes or at regular Hearing Help Sessions in the mid-Essex area. Volunteers are also able to advise and demonstrate specialist equipment such as amplified telephones, vibrating alarm clocks, flashing and vibrating smoke alarms, portable doorbells and loop systems to help with TV and radio listening.
The equipment is also available for demonstration and short-term loan in their Resource Centre/ Office at Unit 3, Lockside Marina, Hill Road South, Chelmsford, CM2 6HF.
Hearing Help Essex also offer Deaf Awareness Training to local businesses and talks to groups and clubs to educate the public of the needs of the hard of hearing.
